Pat Van Bakel, President, Loss Adjusting, North America

Pat is president of Loss Adjusting, North America, responsible for the company’s loss adjusting business segment in both Canada and the United States. Pat is also president of Crawford Canada, a role he has held since 2013. Pat is a seasoned insurance professional with an impressive career that has resulted in a successful leadership journey and impressive business results. His 29 years in the property and casualty business are a testament to his ability to lead businesses and people.


Pat joined Crawford in 1992 and has served in several leadership positions within the organization. In these roles, he excelled in developing high performing teams and leveraging technology to deliver best-in-class service. He currently serves as Chairman of the Board for Origin and Cause, Canada’s largest Forensic Engineering and Fire Investigation Consulting Firm specializing in cross-disciplinary forensic expertise. He is a frequent public speaker and active in a number of industry associations, including serving as Chair of the Board of Governors of the Insurance Institute of Canada.


Pat earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Wilfred Laurier University’s School of Business and Economics in 1992. He lives in Campbellville, Ontario and enjoys spending time with his wife, Janice, and two children, Brett and Erika. His roots in his community run deep; one of his greatest pleasures is coaching his children’s hockey teams.
